At the time this blogpost was being typed... Batu Pahat District was divided into two local authorities namely Batu Pahat Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Batu Pahat, MPBP) which was previously known as West Batu Pahat District Council (Majlis Daerah Batu Pahat Barat, MDBPB) and Yong Peng District Council (Majlis Daerah Yong Peng, MDYP) formerly known as East Batu Pahat District Council (Majlis Daerah Batu Pahat, Timur, MDBPT).
As the second largest town in Batu Pahat district after Batu Pahat city (Penggaram) coupled with economic growth and population growth... in the opinion of the author of this blog... Yong Peng District Council has the potential to be upgraded to a local authority is a municipal council level named Yong Peng Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Yong Peng, MPYP).
At the time this blogpost was being typed... only the Batu Pahat Municipal Council is a local authority with the status of a municipal council in the Batu Pahat district.
It is not uncommon for a district to have more than one local authority at the level of a municipal council in a district... for example when this blogpost is being typed... Hulu Langat district in Selangor has two local authorities at the level of municipal council, namely Kajang Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Kajang, MPKj) and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya, MPAJ).
Furthermore, when this blogpost is being typed... Batu Pahat Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Batu Pahat, MPBP) is seen as potential to be upgraded to Batu Pahat City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Batu Pahat, MBBP). Therefore... it is suitable if Yong Peng District Council (Majlis Daerah Yong Peng, MDYP) is upgraded to Yong Peng Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Yong Peng, MPYP) in line with the upgrade of Batu Pahat Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Batu Pahat, MPBP) to Batu Pahat City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Batu Pahat, MBBP) and complete the metropolitan district rating for Batu Pahat district.
Anyway... the author of this blog hopes that one day in the future... this thing can become real.
